Bad News

This week has not been the easiest. Everyone on the allotment site where Littlemeadow is situated has been told that they must get rid of their cockerels. One particular tenant has been keeping two cockerels, which wouldn't normally be a problem...except that his plot is right next to the row of houses that borders the site. They've been a problem in many other ways, but, as they're being evicted mostly because of having cockerels and caused complaints, we must all suffer the same fate. To say I am devestated is an understatement. It's not about the money I'd save, not really. I had hoped Monty would father this years chicks. Of course, Little Jeremiah has to go too, and there'll be no bantam/silkie chicks either. I have two weeks to remove them, in whatever manner I can. One of the other plot holders is going to ask his brother if he'll take his, and is willing to put my two with them. I don't know, but I think he lives somewhere in an outlying village with some land.

On the positive side, I have broad bean and early pea plants that can go out into the ground, as long as I cover them with some fleece against the wind. And there are other seeds that can also be started. I've started following Charles Dowding's methods in the last couple of years, but this is the first time I'm taking it as seriously as I should. Head over to youtube and type in his name, and you'll find an endless list of videos on how to go no dig and when to plant what. I've spent the winter completing two of his courses, which are very informative and easy to follow.

I 'll let you know what happens to those cockerels. Until then, take care...
