I got brave this morning.
Instead of planting more potatoes, I dug up and moved an established grape vine from the poly house in pt2 to the 4x2 poly tunnel in pt1. It’s gnarled and very fixed in its shape but, after trimming half of the growth and placing the roots in the soil it’s been in for twenty years (I think), I carefully moved it into its new home.
Planting hole dug (square not round, better for future root growth), soil from previous site added. In with the grape’s roots and then a shuffle for best fit in the new setting. Once the vines were tied in place I secured the main stem and buried the roots with more soil from the previous site. Finished by putting soil from the new place and giving a good watering.
The grape is an indoor/outdoor green variety, so I hope it grows well here. It’ll be cooler than the smaller tunnel but still sheltered from the elements, which will be fine for this. I’ve moved it because when I give up the present pt2 I don’t want to leave it behind. I also want to organise where plants go in the poly house and for a long time the grape has been in the way.
